Flying rules PDF Print E-mail

SFFA would like to welcome all foreign pilots to fly in Slovenia. However there are some local regulations which has to be taken into account when hang gliding or paragliding in Slovenia. For personal flying, IPPI card is recommended. Level 4 is required for local unsupervised flying and level 5 for XC flying.

For flying in Slovenia you need SFFA vignette. SFFA vignette can be purchased at SFFA by ending e-mail to administration at Brigita Jarc. Vignette for calendar year cost 15 EUR and is valid for all takeoffs and landings listed with  sign in black on our list of takeoffs - those with mark in grey are listed just for information. The only exceptions are Kobala and Gozd, where contact to local club should be made first.

Use of 2m band radio is permitted only if you possess SFFA vignette. With this vignette you can freely communicate on 147.800 MHz without any special license. You can also get free access to most - not all - takeoffs and landings by buying one.

There are many takeoff's which are managed by local clubs. Please refer to start place details and read carefully local regulations, limitations and warnings! Be polite and responsible when visiting takeoffs and landing places. Please do not litter either on official takeoffs and landings or when landing on XC flights!

Emergency procedures. In case of emergency call 112 and give full description of the situation including exact position, type of emergency, help needed, other possible communication possibilities including mobile phone numbers, radiofrequencies (147.800 MHz). Every emergency including every reserve opening, tree landing even without need for help should be reported to 112 with clear statement of the situation - even if no help is needed - to avoid unnecessary rescue operation.

No commercial flying is permitted (tandems) in Slovenia unless special permit is issued by government body.

Foreign schools are welcome, but are allowed to work in Slovenia only in cooperation with one of local schools - much easier than getting special permit from government body. Competitions are allowed only with agreement with the local club.

All standard VFR rules apply in the air. They can be found in Slovene and English on this link . There are areas with lots of sailplane activity and special attention should be made.

Hang gliding and paragliding is allowed only in G class airspace. Please refer to this link for airspace maps. Generally in northwest part, limit is 2750m MSL and elsewhere 750m AGL. Please be especially careful near Ljubljana and Maribor international airports. Some starting and landing places are very close to prohibited areas.

We strongly suggest to fly only with third party liability insurance. There is no minimum limit set for this insurance. Rescue insurance is for the time being not needed. All changes of this regulation will be published on these pages.
